Mechanical ventilation within patient's house

Patients can benefit from a long-term house care team when they are insured in the National Health Fund as well as good house conditions, family instructed in managing the medical equipment, providing health care and first aid – all of this to keep proper safety level during patient’s therapy.

In order for patient to be mechanically ventilated in home he/she needs to meet few requirements. Firstly, a referral is required. Such referral can be acquired from physician specialist in anesthesia and intensive care in a hospital ward. There are, however, two other requirements to meet:

  • Patient must have his/her causal treatment completed
  • Patient must be fully diagnosed. The diagnosis must confirm that mechanical ventilation is the only way to treat the patient.

Additionally, a hospital treatment information card needs to be attached to the referral.

Patients who are mechanically ventilated can not benefit from:

  • Long-term nursing care
  • Community nurse care
  • Palliative and hospice care
